As Jane*
It was hot and dirty, as Jakarta has always been. Well, what am I talking about, it’s Jakarta. (laughs)
We were playing on this field in front of the house, we were running, screaming, our nannies were
running and tried to come and get us, but we just kept on running, and running, and running, and
running. We never stopped. It was so much fun, until I… fell on the ground. The ground was rough,
so I bruised my knees pretty badly. My nanny ran to me, panicked, maybe scared that my Mom will
get mad at her. (laughs) (pause)
(changes tone) Okay, I have never expected any of this to happen. It was all very sudden – I tried to
understand, I tried to you know… forgive. But, how could you… how could you compromise your
WHOLE LIFE because of that one… ACCIDENT?? YOUR WHOLE LIFE. I tried so hard to get here,
I did. I tried. I… (stumbles) (cursed in Bahasa Indonesia) NGENTOT!!! BANGSAT!!
You know… My whole life. I really did. I tried. I tried so hard. I told him: be careful who you are
friends with. Don’t make stupid mistakes, yes? My dad, and my mom. I would never dare myself to
even begin putting myself in their shoes. The eyes… I couldn’t imagine the eyes that pierced
through their flesh and bones. He’s my brother. He’s their son. He’s. our little John*. (pause) Yea,
I… Is this enough?
