Photograph from the Humanize the Numbers project, photographed in Michigan prisons

Know thyself: this photo demonstrates the Lotus. The lotus flower represents a metaphorical meaning. The lotus grows and begins in the murkiest of waters down in the mud. (This meaning self-development in prison in this case) Once it reaches the top of the water it blooms beautifully. It removes itself from the attachment of the mud and murky waters, gaining self-sustenance. Note: Know Thyself is an ancient axiom that derives from Socrates, the Greek philosopher. Through meditation one is able to see oneself under deep observance. Gains the understanding of object-subject reality and how the universe manifests itself through this perception of reality, becoming a witness of the mind.
